New Canaan Parking Board Votes to Uphold Resident's $30 Ticket
Other Committee · Meeting of September 2, 2026
New Canaan Parking Commission upholds resident's $30 Elm Street ticket, citing rule of law over sympathy. Commissioners voted unanimously to deny appellant Gail Ford's request to void a citation she said she received while briefly parked to pay for her granddaughter's Starbucks order, with one member arguing "there is becoming a kind of practice of picking winners and losers based on equitable considerations that don't follow the law." Parking Manager Kevin O'Connor reported 109 people on the commuter permit waiting list, the highest since the pandemic, with roughly 118 unrenewed Lumberyard lot permits out of 480 renewed so far against a 350-vehicle capacity. Total town parking capacity stands at 2,206 spaces against 1,604 issued commuter and business permits.
A second appellant, Kenneth Wickman, had his ticket upheld automatically after failing to appear.
